Vogue 2391

I have had this pattern since I was pregnant with Veronica -- 9 years (side note - What the french toast happened to all the maternity patterns, Big Four? What, are women not getting pregnant anymore?). It's a bit dated, but the dress is a good basic sloper and I'll be able to gussy it up with some fun accents to make it more current fashion-wise. I was super stoked when I got pregnant because I figured I'd get to use it again.

Until I realized that it's a 6-8-10 pattern.

Let me be clear. I have never, never in my adult life been a 6, 8, or 10 in pattern sizing. I don't know what I was thinking when I bought this pattern. Actually, no, I can tell you what I was thinking. I was thinking that I was an 8 in life so I should be an 8 in a pattern. Plus, when I was in college, one of the costume designers had told me that my measurements fit one of their size 8 patterns perfectly and they didn't have to grade my sizes at all. Of course, I never thought that different pattern companies used different measurements to size their patterns. I can guarantee that our costume department wasn't using some random Big Four pattern for whatever musical we were doing that semester.

Anywhoodle, at least I found that, in addition to every pattern piece being cut (Oh 22 year-old self, what were you thinking? You were never going to sew those pants or that jacket!), I actually did myself a solid and cut a size 10. That's still six sizes too small, but the finished pieces have quite a bit of ease, so I'm thinking that a slightly larger cut and a 1/2" seam allowance may give me all the wiggle room I need. I'm still too lazy to make a muslin.

Finished bust line measures in at 40.5" thank goodness!
I found these two jewel colored chiffons at JoAnn's. They were clearance at $2 a yard each. Score! I also found this black charmeuse print on clearance for $2.50 a yard, but I'm a little nervous since it's so shiny. I'm going to make a dress with each fabric. I'll definitely be adding sleeves, and will change up the necklines so I've got some variety. Exciting!!!
