This was a full or queen sized sheet. I can't remember. Either way it was $2.50. I figured it was destined to become jammies, but after looking at my sad, ratty robe that I've had since I was pregnant with my daughter -- nine years ago! -- I figured it was high time I put my sewing skills to use and make myself a new one.
All in all, this was a good, easy pattern. There's the slightest bit of hand sewing (you have to tack down the neckline facing), but it was relatively painless nonetheless. There were a couple of steps that were worded in a very odd way, though. Step 14, which is when you sew the two pieces of facings together to make one piece of facing, read: Stitch center back seam in upper collar (which is one with front facing). Huh? It was that parenthetical that threw me. I don't know why, but it took me a good couple of minutes just to figure out what they were saying, even with the little picture. In the end it worked out though.
I made a couple of minor changes. I added one pocket and may add a second. I have it cut and ready to put on, I just lost my gumption last night when I was finishing this up. You know me and my love of pockets; robes are no exception! :)
Side note: When I sew on outside pockets, I like to sew the tops like so (click pictures to enlarge):
I find it keeps them on a lot longer, which is especially helpful with children's clothing.
The only other change I made was to tack the belt to the center back of the robe (which I think you can see if you click & enlarge the picture below). I do this because I go bananas when the belt gets caught in one loop instead of being laced evenly through both and then you have to reach around like a dog chasing its tail trying to get it back through both loops. Also, when you wash the robe, the belt inevitably gets lost. I'm convinced it's used by the wayward convict socks that make a break for it in every wash cycle. If it's stitched to the back you're in the clear! :)
I think I'll have to make myself another one of these. This fabric is rather lightweight for the cooler weather that's heading our way -- I like something longer and more snuggly for winter. If you're looking for a quick robe, this one may do you just fine. :)
xoxo,
